Recent medical studies indicate that humans are not intended to sit for long periods of time, considering that more than a quarter of sickness leaves are due to muscle diseases and chronic diseases.
A particular characteristic of the office work in general and in particular on computers, is the sitting position kept almost fixed for hours. Unfortunately this postural attitude is also a prevailing behavior of our current lifestyle, just think of the long hours spent by car or watching television.
The physiological consequences of this passive and in same ways innatural use are many: reduced consumption of energy, venous stasis in legs, functional overload of the spine, cardiovascular diseases, kyphosis, lordosis, scoliosis, neck pain and headaches of muscular tension origin. A research of the "Wellness Council of America" found that sitting for long periods of time increases the risk of obesity; small movements and changes of position are sufficient to prevent this risk, in order to tone and bring energy to our body, thus burning more calories.
