From 1st of January 2014 the municipalities of Alphen aan den Rijn, Rijnwoude and Boskoop have merged. In order to make this possible, the city hall of Alphen aan den Rijn, a design of Erick van Egeraat from 2002, has been completely refurnished, in order to accommodate 300 people more.
They chose to furnish part of the space with Inattesa, a product of Martex that is composed by elements which create relaxing areas and at the same time enable to do different activities: comparing ideas, realize projects, discuss together in a different atmosphere and especially relaxing himself.
C4ID has developed a concept on this behalf, with the basic thought not to create as many workplaces as possible, but to use as many different spaces in the building as possible, in a way that anyone is able to do their work at anywhere. The main idea was always to keep the well-being of the employees and the visitors in mind. Furthermore, a large freedom of choice has been offered as regards to workplace- and meeting points.
The whole is experienced as a city in a city: there are busy and quiet areas, cafes and study-rooms like in a library. The set-up is realized in a way that you can wander around until you have found your essential spot, depending on your work, mood and the need to have people around you or just quietness… not one working day will be the same!
C4ID has completely redesigned the office floors, the council chamber, the restaurant, the work cafe and some new meeting rooms and intermediary spaces. Complementary, the public spaces, the board wing and the other existing spaces have been created in terms of the same look and feel.
